A man was shot and killed by gunmen at the Valencia Market on Friday night.
Ivan Lambkin, 31, of Valencia Old Road, died at hospital after he received multiple gunshot wounds to his body while standing at the entrance of the Valencia Market.
Police reported that around 8.40 pm, multiple explosions were heard, and PC Sookdeo of the Valencia CID accompanied by officers of the Special Patrol Unit and Valencia charge room responded on foot.
On arrival, the officers saw Lambkin clad in black 3/4 pants and a blue denim jacket lying on the pavement at the entrance to the market. He was taken to the hospital and died on arrival.
Visiting the scene were Supt Simmons, Ag Insp Harper, PC Sookdeo of the Valencia Police Post, PCs Maraj and Fuentes of SERU, and PC Ragoobar and WPC Beekley of Sangre Grande CID along with Officers from Arouca Homicide Bureau Region 11.
Police recovered several spent ammunition casings at the scene.
No one has been arrested.
On Saturday, Kathy-Ann Campo, the distraught mother of Lambkin said she was in a church service when her son was killed. “I don’t know what they killed my child for. I am not taking that,” she screamed and cried.
Sitting next to Lambkin’s wife, Anna Pamponette, who cried continuously and was unable to speak, Campo told Guardian Media that they also shot at her son in the Valencia Market in September 2022. He knew the shooter, she said, but the police never made an arrest.
She always reminded Lambkin about the shooting that he survived and always discouraged him from liming by the market. He will respond and say, “’If they want you they will come to your home or anywhere.’”
Campo added, “My son is not perfect, he used to sell his drugs, but never killed anyone. He was a loving child. He will do anything for anybody. I don’t know why they killed my son, he never interfered with anyone and most of the time kept to himself.
“I serve a true and living God. God’s wrath is not man’s wrath, God’s Satisfaction is not man’s satisfaction ... I will get my satisfaction.”
Campo said people saw who shot her son and they are all afraid to speak to the police. CCTV footage of the shooting has been handed over to the police. She hopes the culprit is brought to justice.
Campo said her son was the father of two children and he worked for their happiness.
