Opposition Senator Wade Mark wants an investigation into the proposed purchase of two vessels for the Coast Guard which he said this country is going to pay $300 million more than they are worth.
Speaking at the UNC Monday night forum in St Helena Senator Mark said he saw the contract last week and the price being asked by Australian company Austal is $126 million Australian which he said converts to TT$600 million.
He said after research was done by his party it was found that Austal sold two vessels with the same specifications to the Australian National Bank for the Navy for $63 million, which he said converts to TT$300 million.
He said an investigation must be conducted.
“Is the Australians taking Rowley and Stuart for a ride or is it the other way around? Is Rowley and Stuart taking us for a ride,” he asked.
He called on Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith to launch an immediate investigation.
