Op­po­si­tion Sen­a­tor Wade Mark wants an in­ves­ti­ga­tion in­to the pro­posed pur­chase of two ves­sels for the Coast Guard which he said this coun­try is go­ing to pay $300 mil­lion more than they are worth.

Speak­ing at the UNC Mon­day night fo­rum in St He­le­na Sen­a­tor Mark said he saw the con­tract last week and the price be­ing asked by Aus­tralian com­pa­ny Austal is $126 mil­lion Aus­tralian which he said con­verts to TT$600 mil­lion.

He said af­ter re­search was done by his par­ty it was found that Austal sold two ves­sels with the same spec­i­fi­ca­tions to the Aus­tralian Na­tion­al Bank for the Navy for $63 mil­lion, which he said con­verts to TT$300 mil­lion.

He said an in­ves­ti­ga­tion must be con­duct­ed.

“Is the Aus­tralians tak­ing Row­ley and Stu­art for a ride or is it the oth­er way around? Is Row­ley and Stu­art tak­ing us for a ride,” he asked.

He called on Com­mis­sion­er of Po­lice Gary Grif­fith to launch an im­me­di­ate in­ves­ti­ga­tion.
