Mother of two Anissa Rajgobin-Ageemoolar continues to recuperate after being shot three times on Monday by her ex-husband while at an insurance company.
She is now listed in stable condition at the San Fernando General Hospital.
An autopsy was expected to be done on her ex-husband Sharaz Ageemoolar, who shot her before killing Rosario Ramdhan, an innocent bystander, outside General Accident Insurance, then taking his own life.
A relative of Sharaz told Guardian Media yesterday they wanted no media coverage of his funeral which is expected to take place at his Jones Street, La Romain home.
Saying the ordeal was hard to bear, the relative said no one expected Sharaz to commit the horrific attack.
The relative, who did not wish to be named, said Anissa was just 23 years old when she married Sharaz.
The couple courted for four years before tying the knot on June 1, 1999. They had two sons.
The relative said Sharaz was a welder and fabricator and had a strong entrepreneurial spirit. Together, he and Anissa opened a grocery and worked hard to raise their boys, now aged 20 and 26.
The relative suspected that jealousy drove Sharaz to commit the attempted murder of his ex-wife. Their divorce, which Sharaz initiated, was in the final stages.
In an interview last Tuesday, Anissa’s father, Basdeo Rajgobin, revealed that Sharaz was a violent man who abused Anissa for years. However, she never took out a protection or restraining order.
Rajgobin said Anissa tried to hide her abuse as she did not want him to worry. However, when things got out of hand, Anissa sought refuge at her father’s home in Aripero. She had been living there since July.
One month after she moved in, Rajgobin said, his Aripero Village home was firebombed in August while he was abroad, and was also shot at earlier this month.
Following Monday’s murder/suicide, several activists called for assistance for troubled men.
