Port-of-Spain South MP Keith Scotland says his office is looking into concerns expressed by Housing Development Corporation (HDC) tenants at Independence Square about their relocation
In an interview on CNC3’s Morning Brew yesterday, Scotland said he met with HDC officials on Sunday and as a result some of the affected residents were given more time to relocate.
He also assured that the residents will be offered assistance to integrate into their new environment.
“Some units have been found in San Fernando. This will require physical moving that will take time,” Scotland said. “It will require relocation as it pertains to schools. If there is a need for assistance in finding schools that are closer to the area, that will be provided. Any assistance that is needed in a structured way will be provided to the legitimate residents”
According to Sccotland, there are residents who have been illegally occupying apartments, as well as residents who did not take the necessary steps to regularise their status while living in a unit with other family members. He said his office will be working with all who have been dislocated.
“There is a humanitarian aspect and what we do intend to do though, once we get the information, I will certainly engage the HDC, without making any promise,” he said.
