The murder toll stood at 41 late yesterday following a fatal shooting at Arouca on Monday night.

In the latest incident, at about 10.30 pm, police officers of the Northern Division Task Force responded to a shooting report at Mountain View Drive, Windy Hill, Arouca, where they found Solon James lying at the side of the road.

He was shot several times about the body.

Police took him to the Arima District Health Facility where he died while undergoing treatment.

In an unrelated incident, one of the victims from a shooting incident over the weekend succumbed to his injuries while at the hospital on Monday night.

He was identified as Layne Cumberbatch.

Cumberbatch and his brother, Kareem “Dunga” Samuel, were shot at by gunmen at about 4 am on Saturday while they were at Hunte Road in San Juan. Samuel, 42, was killed on the scene.

Cumberbatch, who was also shot, police said, attempted to escape the gunmen by jumping a wall, however, part of it collapsed on him.

He was taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital where he was treated and warded.

However, police said, he succumbed to his injuries on Monday night. Investigations are continuing into the two incidents.
