The Oropune Police Youth Club received a donation of instruments for an entire orchestra on Wednesday from the Living Water Community to assist in launching the first ever Police Youth Club Band.
The instruments included trumpets and flutes, which would add to the list of instruments currently being taught such as trombones, marching drums, saxophones, clarinets and steelpans.
Receiving the donation was ACP Community Outreach Patsy Joseph at the TTPS weekly media briefing.
She was presented with some of the instruments by national music icon and honorary youth club member, Roy Cape and coordinator of the club's music programme, Krystal Bernard.
Constable Ramkissoon of the police band established the club in 2012.
In 2017, the club formalised their music programme when they retained Bernard who was formerly with the Positive Movement Orchestra.
Under her guidance, five of the students wrote the Royal School of Music grade one exam while one wrote the grade two. All passed with distinctions or merits.
The band would begin in the Northern Division and eventually expand nationwide.
