The National Infrastructure Development Company (NIDCO) has addressed allegations claiming that it proceeded with the ANR Robinson International Airport expansion project without fulfilling the necessary requirements.
In a statement on Tuesday evening, NIDCO clarified that all the necessary obligations have been fulfilled, and they have obtained the requisite approvals for the project.
It said it had successfully obtained all the necessary construction approvals for the project.
On Monday, Infrastructure, Quarries and Urban Development Secretary Trevor James accused NIDCO of breaking law saying the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) still hasn’t seen Town and Country and other approvals for the airport’s construction.
On two other occasions, in the past, James also called on Central Government to provide the necessary approval documents to the THA on the project. He criticized the government for targeting the ongoing Friendship Connector road project for filling to have the necessary approvals claiming that the airport is being constructed without the approvals as well.
However, NIDCO said it has satisfied all requirements of the Town and Country Planning Division and have the necessary planning permissions.
It noted that the THA has been provided with the plans and information, supports the project and had no rejections or requests for additional information.
NIDCO said it has obtained the Certificate of Environmental Compliance and has approvals from all statutory bodies, including the THA , the Water and Sewerage Authority, OSH and the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service.
