An ex­ec­u­tive of the Na­tion­al Pe­tro­le­um Mar­ket­ing Com­pa­ny Lim­it­ed, an aux­il­iary fire­fight­er, an IT tech­ni­cian and a pri­ma­ry school teacher are among six peo­ple ar­rest­ed by po­lice for breach­ing the Pub­lic Health Reg­u­la­tions on Fri­day night.

Po­lice said the 57-year-old NP ex­ec­u­tive from Bel­mont; a pri­ma­ry school teacher, 36, of Or­toire Vil­lage, Ma­yaro; an aux­il­iary fire­fight­er, 30, al­so of Or­toire; an IT tech­ni­cian, 54, of San­ta Cruz; an un­em­ployed woman, 57, of Ojoe Road, San­gre Grande; and a 61-year-old pen­sion­er, al­so of San­gre Grande, were ar­rest­ed at Man­zanil­la Road in the vicin­i­ty of the “Cut­away”, where they were lim­ing.

Dur­ing a joint po­lice ex­er­cise in the Man­zanil­la/Ma­yaro dis­tricts be­tween the hours of 4 pm and 8 pm on Fri­day, po­lice ob­served ve­hi­cles parked and the six were al­leged­ly drink­ing and lim­ing at the pop­u­lar “Cut­away” along the Man­zanil­la Road.

The of­fi­cers ap­proached the group in­form­ing them that they were in breach of Pub­lic Health Reg­u­la­tion which came in­to ef­fect as a re­sult of the COVID-19 virus.

The six tried to plead with the po­lice, but were ar­rest­ed and tak­en to the Ma­yaro Po­lice Sta­tion where they were cau­tioned by PCs Flo­res, Ve­rasam­my and WPC King and charged.

Po­lice al­so searched two drug blocks at Alex­is Street and Charm Road, Ma­yaro, where they found 114 grams of mar­i­jua­na. No one was ar­rest­ed.

The ex­er­cise was a joint ef­fort su­per­vised by Ag In­sp Richard­son, Sgt Ram­lakhan and in­clud­ed of­fi­cers from East­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force, Ma­yaro Crime In­ves­ti­ga­tion De­part­ment, charge room and K9 Unit.
