Gary Grif­fith’s Na­tion­al Trans­for­ma­tion Al­liance (NTA) is seek­ing can­di­dates for all 41 seats in the up­com­ing gen­er­al elec­tions. The par­ty’s po­lit­i­cal leader said it will be an­nounc­ing its can­di­dates from next month for cer­tain seats.

Grif­fith an­nounced this on Wednes­day, adding, “We in­tend to have the best team pos­si­ble and we in­vite all pa­tri­ots with or with­out po­lit­i­cal ex­pe­ri­ence to join us on the jour­ney to trans­for­ma­tion. We’ll al­so con­tin­ue to meet with oth­er po­lit­i­cal par­ties to as­sist in unit­ing Trinidad and To­ba­go.”

The NTA had an elec­tion ac­com­mo­da­tion with the Op­po­si­tion Unit­ed Na­tion­al Con­gress (UNC) for the Au­gust 14, 2023 Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment polls, where the UNC con­test­ed 110 elec­toral dis­tricts and the NTA, 31. The UNC tied 7-7 with the Peo­ple’s Na­tion­al Move­ment for con­trol of the 14 re­gion­al cor­po­ra­tions.

The UNC and NTA con­tin­ued po­lit­i­cal as­so­ci­a­tion af­ter the Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment Elec­tion, but re­main sep­a­rate par­ties. The UNC opened nom­i­na­tions for its 41 can­di­dates for the gen­er­al elec­tions last De­cem­ber. Up to a cou­ple of weeks ago, over 55 nom­i­na­tion forms were sought, UNC of­fi­cials said.

In NTA’s re­lease, Grif­fith said, “In our dri­ve to trans­form T&T, the NTA is pleased to an­nounce that we’re seek­ing can­di­dates for all 41 seats in the up­com­ing gen­er­al elec­tion. We al­so in­vite in­di­vid­u­als to join any of the 41 cam­paign teams.

“In March we will start an­nounc­ing can­di­dates for cer­tain seats so please send us your full name, con­tact num­bers and vot­ing ad­dress.”
