Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar said all citizens can benefit from the enriching message of Easter, “especially during these tough times, as we continue to deal with the ongoing pandemic.”
In her Easter message, she said this is a period of renewal and new opportunities “when we can all be reborn from the hindrances which affect our lives.”
She added: “The resurrection of the Lord Jesus is a symbol that the present burdens, difficulties and fear which keep us from achieving our true potential as citizens can be defeated through faith in God.
“The resurrection of the Lord Jesus is a symbol that the same way Jesus rose on the third day to redeem us, we all, no matter our circumstances, deserve happiness, success and prosperity.
“Therefore, this Easter 2021 should mark a watershed moment for all citizens of Trinidad and Tobago. It should mark the period where, in spite of our differences, we unite to rebuild the broken, unite to rebuild our dreams, unite to rebuild our nation and importantly, renew our national hope.”
Persad-Bissessar said the focus as a people going forward from the burdens created by the pandemic must be on rebuilding our country.
“The best way to rebuild our twin-island Republic is by each individual striving for their best knowing that the mistakes of the past do not define us as individuals. Each day through his resurrection Jesus redeems us from these mistakes, giving us more opportunities to succeed,” she said.
“Today I call on those in authority to not only echo Easter greetings but Easter actions. The Lord showed that he resurrected for the redemption of all, similarly, they must lead, govern and distribute our resources to ensure the rebuilding of all citizens emerging out of this pandemic. Those in authority must do more to ease the burdens of the vulnerable, and ensure that all citizens are protected and provided for.”
The Opposition Leader added: “This Easter, let us believe that a better tomorrow is possible for us all and let us work to make a better future a reality for all.”
