More than 60 persons will begin the homeownership journey in earnest when they receive the keys to their new starter homes, under the Housing and Village Improvement Programme (HVIP).
The keys distribution ceremony is scheduled for 10:00 am tomorrow (November 15, 2023), at the Government Campus Plaza Auditorium, Port-of-Spain.
The 60-plus HVIP beneficiaries include families residing within various Boroughs and Regional Corporations across Trinidad: San Juan/Laventille, Tunapuna/Piarco, Sangre Grande, Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo, Mayaro/Rio Claro, Princes Town, San Fernando, Penal/Debe, Siparia and Point Fortin.
A release from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has confirmed that Minister Camille Robinson Regis MP, Minister Adrian Leonce MP (Minister in the Ministry), as well as executives of the Ministry and the Land Settlement Agency (LSA), will be present at the keys distribution ceremony.
According to the Housing Ministry, “the HVIP is geared towards improving the housing and living conditions of residents who reside in villages across the country with neglected infrastructure and poor-quality housing, many of which are located in rural and peri-urban areas.”
“The programme, which uses a Village Based-Aided Self-Help Approach, aims to enhance the physical, human and social capital assets of the communities,” the Ministry explains.
It also notes that in collaboration with the Land Settlement Agency, it partners with the various communities in order to provide technical, financial, social and other support.
