A private hire (PH) taxi driver from St James was stabbed to death in downtown Port-of-Spain on Friday night.
Around 10 pm, Jabari Phillip, 31, of Benares Street, St James, parked near the corner of Henry Street and Independence Square and got out of the car.
Phillip had a brief argument with a man who was standing at the side of the road. The man pulled out a knife and stabbed Phillip once in his chest before running away.
A passer-by went to Phillip’s assistance, placed him in his car and drove to the Accident and Emergency Department of the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. Phillip was pronounced dead on arrival.
Phillip’s attacker was not arrested, up to late yesterday. An autopsy is expected to be performed on the body at the Forensic Science Centre in St James later this week.
Detectives of the Region One Homicide Bureau are continuing investigations..
