Assalam-U-Aalikum
(May the Peace and Blessings of Allah Almighty Be Upon You All)
On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and my family, I wish to extend greetings to the Muslim community and the entire nation on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr 2019.
The holy month of Ramadan is a blessing to those who yearn for the acceptance of the Creator and who in obedience have fasted to acquire piety and discipline. This period of unquestioning restraint strengthens the believer’s resolve to adhere to the teachings of Allah with an unwavering loyalty.
Muslims throughout the world have for one month, willingly refrained from food, drink and other acts that may invalidate their fast. Those who participated have no doubt emerged from the holy month of Ramadan with a stronger character and with the ability to subject their desires and emotions to their will.
The essential lessons of Eid-ul-Fitr encourage us to make sacrifices and to reflect on our own lives and the ways in which we can live for the benefit of our family, community and our country.
As you gather in your mosques and homes to observe this joyous event let us resolve to always demonstrate the peace, love and equality which are the inherent features of Islamic teachings. Let us continuously direct our hearts towards strengthening our society based on mutual respect, brotherly and sisterly love and universal understanding.
May Almighty Allah shower his choicest blessings upon all of us on this auspicious day.
