General Secretary of the People's National Movement, Foster Cummings, says the PNM leadership would decide on the future of the D’Abadie/O’Meara seat in due time.
He told Guardian Media that the current focus of the Prime Minister and the party is to support the family of the late Lisa Morris-Julian.
Morris-Julian and two of her children died in a house fire on Monday. The tragedy sent the country into shock.
Her husband and other relatives also were injured in the fire and are receiving medical care.
Lisa Morris-Julian was the Member of Parliament for D’Abadie/O’Meara, and just two weeks ago, she was screened and re-elected by the PNM to represent the constituency at the next general election.
Cummings says the party will consider a new candidate for the seat in due time.
“We are focused on supporting the family as much as we can and after the arrangements are made in terms of a funeral, etc.,” he said, “I am sure that the political leader and the leadership of the party will give consideration to what happens in terms of representation for that constituency.”
This morning, police officers and members of the Fire Service returned to the Farfan Street, Arima home of Lisa Morris-Julian as investigations continued into the cause of the blaze.
