Kamla Persad-Bissessar, as Prime Minister of T&T in May 2013, shows then US Vice-President Joseph Biden a steel pan manufactured in Trinidad and Tobago at the Diplomatic Centre in St Ann’s.

The PNM Women’s League has condemned comments made by Opposition Leader, Kamla Persad-Bissessar.

In a statement on Monday, Persad-Bissessar said the Joe Biden administration in the United States had been a "disaster for the American people and the world."

She added that they focused on pushing "a woke, extreme left-wing agenda" that offended basic common sense and morality, overturned the norms of civilised public life, disoriented and mutilated children, censored and cancelled dissenting views, disparaged religious and conservative values, fuelled wars around the world, weaponised the judicial system against political opponents and increased nepotism, corruption, crime, poverty, homelessness, and wealth inequality.

A day later the PNM Women's League slammed the comments by the Opposition Leader, stating, "This kind of rhetoric is reckless and damaging, not only to our relationship with a key ally like the U.S, but also to Trinidad and Tobago's standing on the world stage."

They said the United States has long been an important partner for T&T, offering support in security, trade, and regional stability.

"These inflammatory remarks from Mrs. Persad-Bissessar risk undermining that partnership and harming our international reputation.

In today’s interconnected world, diplomatic relations matter more than ever, and such divisive statements do nothing to advance our country's interests," the PNM Women's League added.

The group said Persad-Bissessar risked isolating this country with her remarks.
