Police are now investigating the theft of equipment and infrastructure at river banks which is being blamed for some of the flooding now being experienced.
Yesterday several areas around the country were inundated with water after hours of rain caused by the inclement weather due to the passage of Tropical Storm Karen.
Speaking at a news conference earlier this afternoon Minister of National Security Stuart Young said the Ministry of Works and Transport has found such breaches to areas where work has already been done to alleviate flooding.
He said this information is upsetting and he asked the police to investigate.
He assured that any person who is caught will be brought to justice.
The sentiments were echoed by Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Kazim Hosein and Minister of Agriculture Clarence Rambharat, Minister of Works and Transport Rohan Sinanan and Minister of Public Utilities Robert Le Hunte, who were also present at the news conference.
Meanwhile, Minister Hosein indicated that at least 500 families in Bamboo were affected by the flooding and some people had to be evacuated.
However, in terms of incidents, Minster Young said there were no reports of anyone being injured due to the bad weather.
