Central Division police fatally shot a 25-year-old man yesterday during a search at the home of last week’s double-murder victims Cindy Joseph and Kadeem Elijah.
The man was identified as Nigel Antoine, 25, from Richplain, Diego Martin.
According to reports, the officers went to the house at Hilltop Drive, Springvale in Claxton Bay to execute a search warrant for firearms and ammunition.
When they arrived at the house around 6 am, they met Antoine at the house.
As Antoine tried to escape, he shoved one of the officers and opened fire. The officers took cover and returned, fatally wounding Antoine. His firearm was recovered and officers found a quantity of ammunition in the house. Police said Antoine was known to them and was probably hiding in the area.
Joseph, 33 and her common-law husband, Elijah, 19, were shot dead at the house last Thursday. Joseph’s 11-year-old son was struck by a bullet in the right leg. He is recovering at the San Fernando General Hospital.
Police said the couple were asleep in their bedroom around 1.15 am when gunmen entered and executed them. Neighbours said they heard the gunshots and saw three men running from the house.
In another exercise, Central Division police arrested a 57-year-old man for possession of a firearm and ammunition on Sunday.
A report stated that PCs Valley and Bramble responded to a report of a man armed with a firearm at Nimblette Street, Enterprise in Chaguanas. On arrival, the officers saw a man and questioned him.
He then took officers to his Nimblette Street home, where they found a brown and chrome Smith and Wesson revolver with five rounds and one spent shell of .38 ammunition in the living room. The man was immediately arrested.
