A team of police officers along with the Commissioner of State Lands are at this time at an illegal quarry site in East Trinidad.
One person has been detained by police. The suspect, however, told police that he is a watchman hired to guard an adjacent piece of land.
At about 11.30 am, as the entourage of police and officials from the Ministry of Agriculture was driving through a dirt track leading to the site, three men who were at the quarry site escaped by running through nearby bushes.
An excavator left abandoned by the men is expected to be seized by police.
Guardian Media's team is on the site and will update as the story unfolds.
