Several items, including the official police badge and identification card were stolen from a police officer’s car outside an Aranguez bar on Friday night.
Police said the officer parked her Mazda van near the El Socorro Access Road, near the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway at 8.50 pm and went to lime with friends at a nearby bar.
The officer returned to her van around 10 pm and noticed the front passenger side window broken.
On checking, she realised her handbag which contained her badge, identification card, tablet, Amazon Kindle and flash drives was missing.
Man killed, another wounded in Carapichaima drive-by
A drive-by shooting in Carapichaima on Friday ended in a 46-year-old man being killed and the wounding of another.
Police said Shawn Newton was speaking with his brother and another man on a bench at Mandela Drive, off Orange Field Road, around 7.45 pm when a bronze van drove near them.
Two gunmen got out of the car and shot at the trio, hitting Newton several times, killing him.
Newton’s 42-year-old brother was shot in his left arm.
A taxi driver who was dropping off a passenger on Mandela Drive, at the time later told police that his car was struck several times by stray bullets during the attack.
The gunmen got back in the van and drove off.
Officers from the Freeport Police Station were called.
The injured man was taken to hospital where he remained up to yesterday morning.
Investigators found ten 5.56 rounds of ammunition at the scene.
Region III Homicide investigators are continuing enquiries.
Car chase through Diego Martin ends in bandit’s arrest
A chaotic car chase through Diego Martin on Friday afternoon ended with the arrest of a 26-year-old suspect.
Police said officers of the Four Roads Police Station received a report of a stolen car on Factory Road around 5 pm.
On reaching the area, the officers saw a grey Kia Nero matching the description of the stolen car, being driven by a man described as a “priority offender.”
The officers tried to get the attention of the man, who drove off, leading officers on a chase.
Police followed the car to Wendy Fitzwilliam Boulevard, to St Lucien Road and then to the Majuba Cross Road, Petit Valley, where the bandit crashed into several parked cars without stopping.
However, the chase came to an end when after he collided with a white Mitsubishi ASX, causing the car to flip over.
As the officers approached the crashed car, they reportedly were threatened by the man and fired a shot at him, hitting him once in the leg.
The injured man was taken to the St James Infirmary.
Police later searched the car and found a black revolver containing a round of .38 ammunition and two false licence plates.
Las Lomas man stabs burglar during break-in
A Las Lomas man turned the tables on a bandit who attacked him at his home on Friday night.
Police said the 40-year-old man was with his family in the living room of his Suchit Trace, Las Lomas No 1, home around 9 pm when they heard the sound of glass breaking from the bedroom.
On checking, the man saw a bandit holding a cutlass and knife who threatened to kill the man and his family.
The man tried to grab the weapons from the bandit leading to a struggle, during which he was beaten and stabbed behind his head.
The scuffle moved to the kitchen area, where the victim grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed the bandit several times.
Las Lomas police were called in along with the emergency responders and took the injured bandit and homeowner to the Mt Hope Hospital where they are being treated.
The victim was treated for cuts to his right ear and bruises to the chest, while the bandit received a punctured right lung, cuts to his head and stab wounds to the lower back and shoulder.
Arima man abducted, beaten after row with girlfriend
Northern Division police are investigating reports that a 26-year-old Arima man was kidnapped and beaten after a heated argument with his girlfriend on Friday night.
Police said the man was at his girlfriend’s D’Abadie home around 10 pm when they got into an argument, during which the man got a cutlass and chopped her on her right finger.
The woman locked herself in the apartment as the man walked around the home destroying the windows before leaving.
As he walked along the Piarco Old Road, the man was confronted by gunmen who shoved him in the trunk of a black Nissan B14 and drove off.
Passers-by saw the confrontation and called the police who issued an All Points Bulletin (APB) through the police command centre.
The man was found around 3.45 am yesterday at Ojar Drive, Calliste Street, Mausica Road.
When questioned by police, the man reported that men threw glass bottles at him but could not remember how he got to the location where he was found.
