Obama team in secret talks with Warner

The US-based public relations firm, AKPD Message and Media, which successfully managed President Barack Obama’s 2008 election campaign, is in Trinidad to meet with UNC-A’s deputy political leader, Jack Warner. Sources told the Sunday Guardian that the US team arrived in Trinidad last night for talks today with Warner at an undisclosed location. Warner, vice president of Fifa, returned home on Friday night after inspecting pitches in Nigeria for the World Under-17 tournament starting in October.

Sources close to the Warner camp revealed that the Chaguanas West MP cut short a planned visit to Rome. This is yet another example of Warner using his global resources and negotiating savvy to have a positive impact on the local political scene, sources added. The discussions between Warner and AKPD, one of the most renowned political consultancy firms in the world, is a coup of sorts, as the firm earned an enviable reputation and is in great demand everywhere, following its successful and unprecedented management of Obama’s campaign.

The Sunday Guardian understands that Warner changed his flight schedule and returned to Trinidad to facilitate the meeting with top executives from AKPD. When contacted for a comment on the secret meeting, Warner neither confirmed nor denied the report. While sources in the Warner camp are tight-lipped, speculation is rife that he is seeking professional advice and guidance in yet another attempt to unite all opposition factions. A source from Warner’s Chaguanas West constituency office did confirm that the Chaguanas West MP was pursuing aggressively unity attempts this past month.

During the last general election in T&T in 2007, Warner made several attempts to broker a unity deal. While he was able to unite several factions to create the UNC–Alliance, the Chaguanas West MP was unable to seal a deal with the breakaway Congress of the People (COP). Sources claimed that resentment towards UNC political leader, Basdeo Panday, and the party’s present structure hampered any meaningful dialogue of unity between the UNC and the COP.

One thing is clear, however. The source said the political ante had been raised, and Warner was signalling that his change initiative would now seek out the resources of a firm whose work on the Obama campaign clearly defined what political change was all about. Cost of the visit by the high-powered team has not been revealed. There are four top executives in AKPD Message and Media—David Axelrod, John Kupper, David Plouffe and John Del Cecato.

The US National Journal, in its analysis of the 2008 US presidential campaign, stated: “Of those who deserve a place in history for helping Barack Obama win the presidency…atop the list is AKPD, which has offices in New York and Chicago.” AKPD and its principals led the creation and execution of President Obama’s campaign message and media. The firm guided the campaign from its explosive start to its upset primary wins, through the toughest presidential nomination process in modern times, to a smashing general election victory.

What Obama said

Barack Obama was sworn in as President of the United States after running a presidential campaign that changed the rules of the game; a campaign that erased perceptions of ethnicity, inequality and bias; a campaign that was based on hope, trust and the promise of a better future.

Obama’s presidential campaign was able to captivate and enchant the US population and, by extension, the world. During his acceptance speech, Obama thanked all who stood behind him. Right after thanking his wife and family members, he thanked two men—David Plouffe and David Axelrod, both from AKPD.

They had formulated the ground-breaking strategies that created magical results for the Illinois Senator and the American people. Obama, during his speech, had described Plouffe as “the unsung hero of his campaign, a man who built the best campaign, I think, in the history of the United States of America”—and Axelrod, “who’s been a partner with me every step of the way.”

The pair had put together what Obama described in his speech as “the best campaign team ever assembled in the history of politics.” Even Republican strategists described the Obama campaign as a technically perfect campaign, while political pundits said the 2008 Obama campaign would be used as a template to guide all election processes in the future.

Nelson Mandela, Jesse Jackson, now Obama election team. Take the following examples from Obama,

1) Treat your opponents with dignity.
2) Treat women with dignity e.g. his treatment of Hilary Clinton, not your treatment of Kamla.
3) CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM, whereby donations are limited and donors and amounts are published.

Not to be in sync with Obama's core values and attempt to associate with his brand is making a mockery of said gentleman.

Mr Jack Warner is trying at

Mr Jack Warner is trying at all levels to pull off another despicable move to present himself as the saviour of the UNC-A and the country in general. I am almost certain that outside of his constituency Mr Warner is not a very likeable person. He does not possess the charisma and personality that would allow him to be the leader of a party much less a country. He has tried to bring Mr Nelson Mandela unsuccessfully, Rev Jesse Jackson who most blacks in the US do not have a great deal of respect, trust and admiration for and now the Obama group, AKPD. What's next? All it shows is how much money this man has at his disposal. Along with investigating the political parties in Trinidad and the ministers, a serious look should be made towards Mr Jack Warner finances. One of main reasons that he is so interested in ensuring Trinidad make it once again to the World Cup in South Africa is to once again obtain the travelling rights through his agency. This man is as corrupt as their have been in Trinidad and Tobago and he is a gross embarrassment to the sport and to politics. He is not a very honest man.

Bottom line: Jack is no

Bottom line: Jack is no Obama. If Toyota starts selling Ladas or Yugos, I would be a fool to purchase them as Toyotas just because it's a Toyota salesman.

Interesting. I guess people

Interesting.

I guess people prefer Patrick Mugabe or Basdeo Amin?
At least this guy does good stuff for his constituency. When last do you think the people of Sando West...far less for Couva North, saw their respectable representatives?
On the one hand, you have a man who seems to prefer the company of foreigners to his own fellow citizens as he is always in one foreign conference or the other, preening for the foreign press, still bemoaning the loss of an executive jet from the luxurious depths of his palace.
On the other hand is an an old and jaded, battle-weary warrior who thinks talking about "the struggle" is still relevant and ketching kicks sabotaging anyone who thinks they can take his place.

While Jack gets bashed for trying to move TnT politics out of the doldrums, billions of dollars go unaccounted for, wastage of resources is rife, and the regular, average citizen still can't get basic services in a timely manner - healthcare, passports, birth/marriage certificates, drivers' licences, income tax returns, etc....the things that make our country far, far removed from first world status (as opposed to pretty, tall, exorbitantly priced buildings). Jah bless.

Stadium

Stadium

The jury is still out on the building of five stadium, and ticket sales at the last world cup. It is interesting that Panday did not kick him under the bus on those occasions but stood by him.

Implied Assumptions

Implied Assumptions

You seem to imply that the choice is between, Manning, Panday and Jack. You really believe that Ramesh or Dookeran would give Jack leadership of their party. Jack has done some good but he has high negatives also just like Manning and Panday but they have a loyal base.

JACK!!!!!Money cannot buy

JACK!!!!!Money cannot buy POWER!!! Period SR,New York

AKPD will kill off d PNM If

AKPD will kill off d PNM

If for only one thing, the AKPD will successfuly make Patrick Manning be hated like George Bush. But who will be the 'President Obama".?? Thats what is missing from this obvious Free PR Arcticle.

Thus, it will be a face off between the UNC and a NEW PARTY, with PNM being anhilated by the AKPD consultants. Jack, is obviously potrayed as the "Deputy UNC-A Leader" somehow with deliberate intent to mislead, as there is no UNC-A anymore. Such is the deception of this article! I dont think Obama would have gone about any politics in this crude and immature way Jack is making use of the Money he has at his disposal.

Definity, some Politics of 'change' will come, once Jack spends his money on AKPD, as this would only ensure the PANDAY TEAM wins the MAJORITY, as a NEW PARTY (anti-Panday persons) would only come in second, when the PNM is wiped out by the AKPD.

JACK now looks like a snake in wolf's clothing. Figure it out folks. Do you want to sleep with the Serpent, who offers you the poisoned apple in the garden of eden, or do you want to be free?
