‘Ramjack’ duo to get involved in local polls

Published: 24 Jun 2009

Disgruntled UNC MPs Jack Warner and Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj plan to be “involved” in Local Government elections by ensuring that candidates whom the UNC selects are approved by “the people,” Maharaj said yesterday. Warner confirmed that their “Ramjack” faction would be “participating” in Local Government polls, which are expected soon. “We’re meeting in two weeks to map out strategy for this,” Warner added as he toured his constituency yesterday. He leaves for business overseas today.

Maharaj said, “It is one party we are in the UNC Alliance and we are UNC.” He said, “So wherever the UNC has candidates going up on their ticket and whoever the UNC chooses to do so will have to face the people and the people will determine if those persons are who they really want.” During his constituency tour yesterday, Warner told members of the public that in Opposition the UNC “can’t help you.”

UNC leader Basdeo Panday was not available yesterday. But UNC’s Surujrattan Rambachan said of the group’s plan,“I think they are on a deliberate strategy to destabilise and try to destroy the UNC without realising they are destroying the hope of the very people they claim to be wanting to give hope to.” Rambachan said, “It’s not surprising that they have taken this line. It is one which Maharaj took before and is doing it again and Warner has made it clear from his manifesto that he wants to be party leader.”

He added, “But they are coming up against the strength of the UNC and its supporters and those are people committed to change and who will not allow themselves to make the same mistake as 2007. Therefore Ramjack will only be taking another step to show itself as a would-be destroyer and to destroy itself.”

I see the people who blame

I see the people who blame Jack as if he is the instigator of this. He is the loudest but he is not the instigator, but it is easy to attack him. We want change not exchange so perhaps they are all doing us a favour one down two more to go.

Instigator

Instigator

I could not care less about instigator all the political parties are the same. Promises, promises, promises. Corruption, corruption, corruption. I will do better, I will do better, I will do better. The reality Businessmen invest in political parties, they get contracts, and they then give kickback to the politicians. It is a vicious circle. We the masses get kick down. To date PNM is the most corrupt. The most crime is under PNM. Manning, Panday , Winston, Ramesh and Jack same modus operandi. In local parlance same Ka Ka La Ka.

Perhaps instead of being a

Perhaps instead of being a shameless apologist for Basdeo Panday you should lobby him to bring about the change in his own party that would see the PNM finally start sweating torrents. Where is the logic in backing the sort of dinosaur politics you come with everyday whenever there is talk about change in the opposition? The opposition is in a sense supposed to police the gov't and keep them on their toes FOR THE SAKE OF THE PEOPLE. But what are they now? A national joke, run by the single most corrupt senior politician to ever walk this land. Do you sincerely believe the contracts and kickbacks, bad as they are, are restricted to the PNM, or T&T governments? WAKE UP and quit whining! Daily you cry down the efforts of those who would seek to bring about change. Jack and Ramesh may not be of the best character, but they don't have numerous court cases pending for corruption. Manning may be a lot of negative things in people's minds... Dookeran may be soft on things he should be tough on but neither of these two have numerous court cases pending for corruption. To whine regularly about "procedures for electing a leader" is to have the horse starve while the grass grows. You don't seem to appreciate that the very welfare of an entire nation is at stake. I accept fully that you have the right to your opinions, but honestly, to hear dotish statements like who was the most corrupt political party when the voting public consistently believes otherwise is really buying into the garbage that a desperate old politician, on trial for his freedom, trying hard to get intelligent people to believe. He feeding people that crap for years and you lining up at the trough...

If you choose not to work with the rest of Trinidad & Tobago towards real progress, a proper functioning gov't and an equally responsible and effective opposition, then get out of the way and allow others to fix this mess.

When you have time

When you have time

Who are you an apologist for? I guess none as the driver driving good. UNC was in power for 6 years, PNM for 40 or more. We voted out UNC for corruption, lack of moral and spiritual values and the price of food. All the areas are worst PNM is in power you still blaming UNC and you have the audacity to say I am an apologist. It is a clear case of pot calling kettle black. Unlike you I do not belong to any party. But we must have balance I feel like I am listening to Hanity on FOX a very one sided view. The press in T&T is owned and controlled by the government and the predominantly Christian Right. I would state to you for the umpteen time I find the political process greatly FLAWED. Unless we have ELECTION CAMPAIGN REFORM whereby donations are made public and limited, things will NOT change. We do not know if the Drug Lords are financing our political parties. We saw an expose that CLICO contributed 20 million to PNM campaign. CLICO also financed UNC. All businesses finance parties, they are the brokers that call the shots not the political leader. There is a food chain a symbiotic relationship

Big Business <------------------> Political Parties

Donations <-------------------> Contracts

Payback <--------------------> Kickbacks

They are all inadequate. PNM has been corrupt for over 40 yrs, UNC for 6, they have been both corrupt.PNM 400 and more murders, UNC 100 both failed on crime. Food prices high under UNC it is higher under PNM. UNC had a quarter of the revenue that PNM has to spend.

Fairplay , you can attack

Fairplay , you can attack Jack as much as you care to but Jack is a citizen of the world , he shines , internationally , more brilliant than Manning and Panday . Austin 'Jack" Warner is an asset to the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago , so fairplay , please give Jack his jacket - no pun intended . Panday is the bane of the UNC ; not RamJackWin . Fairplay you should be proud that you are an apologist for Panday and you don't have to hide your feelings , evehthough , Panday speaks with a "fork-tongue" because he called Jack an agent of the PNM because he thanked the minister of Public Utilities , Mustapha Abdul-Hamid for the lights at the Green Park Recreational Ground , Felicity - yet Panday was at the said ground with the Minister of Finance . Fairplay , is your hero an agent of the PNM or is he a hypocrite ??? Fairplay , one does not have to be a party member to be supporter and in your case , an apologist . As a matter of fact , there are more Party supporters than members . Atw - Barbados .

Wasn't it Jack?

Wasn't it Jack?

Wasn’t it Jack that went up and down this country praising Panday saying that he was the best PM T&T ever had? Wasn't it Jack who vilified Winston? Who is the apologist and who has the forked tongue? Ah forget Yesterday was Yesterday and Today is Today, that statement alone speaks for itself.. Jack is the biggest flip flop in politics. First he bad talk Winston and join Panday he apologize to Panday, then he bad talk Panday and apologize to Winston. Monkeys really don’t see their own tail. You will now make the excuse he disassociates from Panday. I accept that Jack is an International figure he shines internationally but he made many fopaux. His attempt to ingratiate himself with Mandela’s presence using him to score cheap political points was internationally rebuffed and showed poor taste. The same thing happened with Jesse Jackson. He and Panday came back from South Africa and were the laughing stock of the country. And you want to call me apologist. Then you are the King of Siam.

fedup you're right, it's

fedup

you're right, it's Ramesh Maharaj who is the true instigator. Jack does, however, feel as if he can buy everything, except intelligence.
Mr Maharaj and Mr Warner's actions are questionable and reek of a political conspiracy. That is the fact. They need to back off, form their own party and leave the country in peace. They are hampering development. Jack warner needs to decide further if he's an Mp or not. He misses so many sessionsof Parliament, says nothing for months and then jumps on the bandwagon and expect people to take him seriously.
Ramjack is a monumental, PNM inspired joke

In my opinion maharaj and

In my opinion maharaj and wanner has put their resources to help many poor people in Trinidad in the last 5 years, all I see panday do is destroy the efforts made by everyone, and I do mean everyone, if it not bas way, it is no way, and this is what have we in the problem we in, Manning and he boys taking advantage of the situation no one else to vote for. Now this is the stuff that make me feel to leave Trinidad but then I can’t get a passport for another 5 months and hope I can get a visa now, because the world looking at us like just some trickydidian.

Democracy

Democracy

As far as I remember in a democracy the one with majority rule. It cannot be just Manning Panday or Winston way they must have support of the majority. Whatever preference I have, PNM got the most votes they form the government people freely exercised their franchise. The second most votes were gained by UNC. Manning has the majority support and was asked to form the government. Panday had the most support in UNC he was asked to be leader of the opposition. Rowley and Manning fall out but Manning still has the majority support and is still PM. RamjacK and Panday falls out but Panday still has the support of the majority so he stays as Leader of the Opposition. This is how a democracy works. If it is good for the goose it is good for the gander. To bring up a lot of erroneous things because you did not win or you do not like the Leader is just being a spoilt sport. If I feel that Manning, Panday or Winston should not be in charge that does not change it, someone has to be able to convince the majority to switch allegiance until then the status quo remains. If I don't like PNM I have two options vote them out next election or stage a coup baring anything unforeseen. The rest is just ole talk and wishful thinking.

Democracy is always a good

Democracy is always a good thing, but this is Trinidad when the PM use the Muslim (as came out in court) to win the last election, democracy went out the window, now I did not say to put anyone in charge of the unc, all I am saying is wanner spend his money many times without the unc to help people and maharaj has offered his services for free to many needy cases in Trinidad, I don’t see the bass doing stuff like that, BUT THEN UNC NOTHING YET, I wonder if panday and maharaj go kiss and make up again and use some more of jack money, bass go need it he have too much legal fees now, or maybe he go cut a deal with the man that jump off the PNM ship. Anyway any which way it work out I don’t see them winning the next election, but I do hope someone get their act together soon because anything better than the PNM now.

Flawed Process Flawed

Flawed Process Flawed Leaders

Democracy is for the people by the people. What we have in T&T is for the people with money by the people with money. This is obscene and undemocratic and anyone who supports it is unpatriotic. I take your point but this reinforces my view that the process is flawed. Someone should not be able to use his money to buy political power. This is where the corruption begins. If you read my post above where I show how when business men contribute they expect favors in return through contracts. Then the politicians expect kickbacks. CLICO contributed 20 million to PNM and were also giving money to UNC. As a matter of fact CLICO was so powerful in UNC that Panday blue eyed boy was Carlos John that is when he and Ramesh fell out the first time. One of the cases that Panday has in court is receiving scholarships from CLICO for his children. Druprey said in court that since he was young the family has given money and gifts to PNM. CLICO is not the only company that does this most conglomerates do. We have the recent case of Emile Elias saying that he will not contribute to PNM again. He was the recipient of many major contracts, and was the loudest detractor on the Airport Project. He is now being accused with Rowley by the said PNM of corruption. The ting tie up like crab. Investors control the parties from behind the scenes, when they can't they mash it up and support someone else. This is what is happening with Jack and UNC. Ish, Steve, and Brian were PNM financiers before moving their support to UNC. Brian Kwei Tung has the distinction of being the Minister of Finance under PNM and UNC. He only learns to thief under UNC. Please. The investors are like gangs on the block fighting for turf. When you think you are voting for a party you are really voting for the investors. Sometimes these investors invest in all parties that is why when you think you will get change from a new Leader and party you are really getting exchange.
It is no different in PNM, UNC, COP or RAMJACK.

You are right, I hope one

You are right, I hope one day in the future these people children who are following in their parents footsteps in the political arena do not make the same mistakes their parents did, our generation did not learn from the era of Dr Williams, and that is where it started and has set the stage for the present circumstances/politics in Trinidad and Tobago.
