Chaguanas MP Jack Warner says he has no plans of resigning his seat to fight a by-election with former Chaguanas mayor Dr Suruj Rambachan. "Such is the dream of fools...Imagine more than 11,000 persons voted for me in the last general election and I must resign just so," he said.
"I will not allow myself to be distracted from the real issue facing my party and my country. "And the real issue is 77-year-old (Opposition Leader Basdeo) Panday. Whether I resign or not is a matter for my constituents to decide and I have no intention of falling for any foolish bit of propaganda coming from the Rienzi establishment.
"I am not afraid to face Suruj. I faced him last Monday and won and if ever I have to face him again, the result will be the same. "It is so much nonsense talking of a by-election. I am an elected UNC candidate, deputy political leader of the UNC, resigning as UNC MP to fight against UNC candidate Suruj Rambachan...Rubbish. "I am the Member of Parliament for Chaguanas West and Basdeo Panday cannot change that."
Panday had called on Warner to resign his seat and face a by-election, after Warner was instrumental in removing Rambachan as the mayor of Chaguanas. Warner claimed the mother of all deals has taken place between UNC leader Panday and the PNM for the Mayaro Rio Claro Regional Corporation to re-elect Ramlochan Panchoo as chairman. "PNM members of the Mayaro Rio Claro Corporation are resisting despite the instruction which they have all received from their party. You talking about done deal. All in an effort to lick up Gypsy tomorrow."
