Congress of the People Deputy Political Leader Prakash Ramadhar has slammed moves by Udecott to stop the Commission of Enquiry into its operations. Ramadhar said Udecott was claiming that they are entitled to protection of the law like every other citizen. He said, however, “Udecott’s very existence is illegal.”
He complimented Attorney General John Jeremie for having brought legislation to legitimise the enquiry after the failure to gazette it, and said they were looking forward “to the AG response to this latest move to stop the enquiry.” Ramadhar was speaking with reporters when the COP bandwagon rolled into the Chaguanas Market yesterday morning. He also spoke out against the Government’s proposed increase in property tax, saying scores of people in the busy central borough raised serious concerns about it.
Ramadhar said people felt they were being forced to pay for Government’s squander-mania and wastage on such events as the recently concluded Fifth Summit of the Americas and the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). He called upon every one to pen letters of protest against the taxes to their respective MPs.
