?Opposition MP Dr Tim Gopeesingh has written to acting Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Roger Gaspard to initiate police action against Udecott's executive chairman Calder Hart. The letter, dated October 26, was copied to the Attorney General John Jeremie and the acting Commissioner of Police James Philbert. Gopeesingh said the action should be based on testimony given at the suspended Uff Commission of Enquiry into Udecott and the Construction Sector. He said regarding the Tarouba Stadium, there was a case for an investigation to be launched "into the activities of Udecott and, specifically, its executive chairman Calder Hart as to whether the company acted with singular favouritism towards the contracting firm Hafeez Karamath."
Gopeesingh said: "The prerogative to instruct the police to initiate such a probe falls under your good office." He said the responsibility lay with the acting DPP to instruct that the probe took place in the interest of the national community. Many Opposition politicians and sacked minister Dr Keith Rowley have been calling for the police to initiate a criminal probe into the operations of Udecott, based on evidence in the Uff Commission. Prime Minister Patrick Manning has said no action will be taken until the report of the commission was presented to the President.
