Dookeran on party’s future:

Kamla is credible UNC leader

Published: 27 Oct 2009

UNC deputy leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar is the credible candidate for new UNC leadership for the future, COP leader Winston Dookeran said yesterday. Dookeran was replying to questions about a call from the floor raised at UNC’s Congress on Sunday in which a member, reportedly named Abdul, from the Caroni Central constituency, called on UNC leader Basdeo Panday to step down and for Persad-Bissessar to be interim UNC leader. Dookeran said one of the interesting comments coming out of the UNC Congress, showed there was sentiment in the UNC “that they need a new leadership for the future.”

I think Kamla is the credible candidate for that option if it were to materialise,” Dookeran added. Asked if he also viewed Persad-Bissessar as a possible suitable leader for a united UNC/COP arrangement, Dookeran said that was speculation “down the road.” He said things would take their course. Dookeran said he was not discouraged from pursuing the unity process by Panday’s criticisms of the COP which Panday made on Sunday. Panday had alluded to certain demands within COP for adjustments by UNC in order for the unity arrangement to take place. Dookeran said the unity matter was a process.

Apart from the chased-away

Apart from the chased-away COP faction from the UNC before the last general election, the hydra-headed UNC leadership was in itself a deterrent for the voters to support the UNC/UNC-A. The question of a single leader of any new or unified political party/parties will be an issue to be settled at an early stage in order to answer the question posed last time around: "tell me who is your leader".

Dookeran pronounces that Kamla is a credible leader. What if Panday were to pronounce that Ramadhar is a credible leader? Dooks is behaving like his old mentor Bas. Let each Party sort out its own leadership issues and then let them deal with re-unification or whatever else.

KAMLA IS A "CREDIBLE"

KAMLA IS A "CREDIBLE" LEADER:
Not a bad response from Mr. Dookeran. Its being recommended that Mr, Panday step aside and allowe Mrs. Kamla to step up as Leader in the interim, until the UNC electins in January 2010.
The UNC will sort out their business while the COP will do the same with theirs, and hopefully in the meantime, they will continue their exchanges and negotiatios in the back rooms of their coffee shops.

Without a doubt Mr. Panday, realises that his days are numbered. He is no fool and should not take his marbles and go home, but remain with the party to assist them; as he has a lot of value still left in him, but not as leader.

DUPLICITY AT IT'S WORST

DUPLICITY AT IT'S WORST -

On TV6 yesterday Mr Hamel Smith, COP delegate at recent UNC Conference indicated that it was none of any party’s business to interfere in the leadership issues in the other party. There are many who feel that Prakash Ramadhar is a better choice than Winston, he is young, dynamic and articulate. Winston you talk with forked tongue. That is leadership you can look forward to.

Commenting on the UNC's

Commenting on the UNC's leadership issue does not amount to interference. In this light, your claim of duplicity is invalidated. You seem hell bent on presenting an analysis that "appears" to be fair but you might forever exist in the intellectual stasis that is the UNC way of thinking.

YOU ARE A JOKING

YOU ARE A JOKING -

Dookeran made an open invitation to Kamla to come over to COP and he was rejected that is not interfearing. Where is Gillian, Yet Ming, Griffith , Ganga Singh and Ramsaran now, they stood with Dookeran against Panday. As Jack and Ramesh said he was weak he would not be able to dictate the pace in JACKRAMCOP.

A woman prime minister will

A woman prime minister will definitely be a breath of fresh air in Trinidad and Tobago politics. i too believe that Kamla will be a credible leader, I am not sure if her continued loyalty to Panday will be perceived as a liability though. Its a pity that he (and Manning)just wont fade into that good night. Don S. NY

KAMAL IS ALSO LOYAL

KAMAL IS ALSO LOYAL -

She is not projecting herself, and is disciplined enough to let democracy take its course. The RAMJACK bacchanal has died down; let us now promote a fight with Kamla. Divide and conquer as the British would say. What are her views, everybody seems to be talking for her. She is competent, disciplined and LOYAL and these attributes would put her in good standing.

Kamla is too loyal to Panday

Kamla is too loyal to Panday more so than the UNC or the country . I would like to opine that with unity among the opposition parties , Winston Dookeran will be the best man to lead . Panday went to jail already and he maybe going , again .
It appears that Kamla owes her political existance to Panday and she don't want to appear to be ungrateful .

Bas is almost 80 - time to pass it on.
Kamla don't fit in with his plan for his legacy. Otherwise he would have demonstrated his faith in her by passing the torch of succession - since as he claimed at his Monday night wake last night "The party that I founded", he clearly sees the UNC as his property, so all that garbage about leadership is not like a cow you could give away... fails to resonate. He CAN "give away" leadership, if he chose to. But that's not in the cards. Allyuh beseeching the wrong leader of the UNC, it eh Bas... especially when it comes to passing the torch to another female, o(h)ma lord, Bas eh got the last say there at all!!

MANDELA WENT TO JAIL ALSO

MANDELA WENT TO JAIL ALSO -

Mandela went to jail also he was accused and convicted of worse things than Panday. I think he is now one of the most respected leaders in the world. He is a Nobel Prize winner. He went to jail as result of political prosecution. Ramesh, Jack and all UNC MP's including Dookeran are on record as saying that Panday was singled out for prosecution. But for political convenience they are now changing their tune. That is why Kamla is being cried down for her loyalty, at least she is consistent.

Capone too - your point?

Capone too - your point? -
You attempted this Mandela/Panday comparison before. Myself and a few others laid waste to your efforts at linking the two ON ANY LEVEL. You bring it back again, presumably in the hope that "new" readers would cotton to your Panday-style logic. At age 8, or 78, Panday was never and will remain never anywhere near anything smelling like a Nobel Prize. And international respect?? Ah will leave that one alone, the man cyar even get local respect. From delegates of his own congress, high ranking members of his own party to just plain people... fuss people want him to "stay".

You are very wrong to claim that for political expedience "Ramesh, Jack and all UNC MP's including Dookeran" changing their tune about Panday being "singled out for prosecution". Not one of those persons you mentioned have ever recanted what they said, and I challenge you to prove that. After having made the claim the burden of proof is on you to prove its veracity. If you are able to I will recant - but I don't think you can. They are still consistent with what they said when they were in Panday's corner.
You should at least make some conscious effort to be credible in the things you say. Otherwise you cannot be expected to be taken seriously, except by other Panday non-thinkers.

Attempting to reason with

Attempting to reason with him is ill-advised. His views aren't amenable to logic and though the burden of proof rests squarely on his shoulders, it will never be produced. What you will always get is a truckload of political dogma in place of sober analysis.

That Panday is no Mandela. You know the comparison is purely that of political prosecution and later redemption. You choose to be disingenuous in your argument. Even though we differ I respect your passion and know that you are talented, you are capable of doing better than that.

I hear what you saying, but there are some comparisons that simply SHOULD NOT be made. Panday/Mandela is one of them.

WHEN SOMEONE KEEPS PRAISING

WHEN SOMEONE KEEPS PRAISING THEMSELVES -

Self praise is no praise. Your arrogance is a disservice to COP. You project that it is a party of know it all, who somehow feel that they are intellectually superior and were specially appointed by GOD to tell all of us mere mortals how to think. It is either that you are stupid because you are PNM or you are an idiot because you are UNC. I do not see you as an idiot because you support COP. I explained to you already that at various times I have supported PNM, UNC, NAR the original version of COP. In my family there are people who support all. In the Mohammed , Montano and many families in T&T there is support for all parties. It is unreasonable to think that if you do not support COP you are an idiot. This has been pointed out to you by other bloggers; in short your attitude needs a makeover. Again I respect your passion and your right to express and hold a different opinion but you should also show that you respect others rights to have other opinions.

Your one tracked mind

Your one tracked mind prevents you from understanding the simpler things my friend.
The COP has yet to convince me that I should vote for them. The PNM cannot and the UNC is not an option. Not for a thinking person anyway, and I make absolutely no apologies for saying that. Who vex, lorse. You can't want to act dumb then be upset if someone calls you dumb. You seem to willfully demonstrate an uncanny ability to miss the point and see only that which you choose. Yes, you have the right to your opinion - but you do NOT have the right to make your opinion mine. If you can you could get me to WANT to make your opinion my own by convincing me that yours is the best option - but dat an' God face...

Our problem in T&T today is PRECISELY because of the way we THINK. We need to change that, otherwise we will be going round and round in circles, more people will be dying and more money will be wasted. You vex because people find we shouldn't keep the old ways of thinking, not giving a damn that it only propping up the status quo... which you complain about but WON'T act on. The country in deep mess, and you in favour of the status quo - the definition of lunacy is to keep doing the same things expecting a different result.

But we could agree to disagree.
