?Ch­agua­nas West MP Jack Warn­er is against a move to pro­vide bul­let­proof vests for pris­on­ers. Act­ing Com­mis­sion­er of Po­lice James Philbert an­nounced last week that a de­ci­sion was tak­en to pro­vide cer­tain pris­on­ers with ex­tra se­cu­ri­ty, af­ter the re­cent killing of mur­der ac­cused Pe­ter Gar­cia, as he was be­ing es­cort­ed by po­lice from Rio Claro Mag­is­trates' Court on Oc­to­ber 18. In a re­sponse yes­ter­day, Warn­er said the break­down in law and or­der was the re­sult of the in­abil­i­ty of the po­lice to do their job ef­fi­cient­ly and ef­fec­tive­ly.

Warn­er said the vest may pre­vent some­one from be­ing killed, but it would not stop the root caus­es of cit­i­zens be­ing in il­le­gal pos­ses­sion of guns and am­mu­ni­tion. On the is­sue of weapons for Court and Process of­fi­cers, Warn­er said the of­fi­cers could car­ry non-lethal weapons such as tasers. He said such weapons would re­duce the num­ber of fa­tal po­lice shoot­ings.
