Health Minister Jerry Narace and UNC vice-chairman Vasant Bharath may sit on opposing sides in Parliament. But on Christmas Day they set aside their political differences and shared drinks together at Bharath's home. "We have been long-standing friends for 15 to 20 years," Bharath said during a brief telephone interview yesterday. He added that he knew Narace back in the days when Narace owned the chain of Budget Foods Supermarkets.
"I was the manufacturer of Cheekies pampers at that time so I was the supplier to Narace's supermarket in those days," Bharath said. He jokingly remarked that Narace's visit for Christmas was "no more and no less" than two friends having drinks and sharing each other's company. "Yes, he was here to have a drink with my wife and I," he said. "So there is no juicy gossip," he added with a hearty laugh.
