Some 1,500 United National Congress (UNC) members from Tobago will have to travel to Trinidad to vote at Sunday’s internal elections because there is no polling booth in the island. So said Barrington “Skippy” Thomas, Tobago regional representative candidate on the independent candidates’ platform in Siparia on Wednesday night. Speaking at the Siparia KPA Primary School, Thomas tried, prosecuted and found the United National Congress, led by political leader Basdeo Panday, guilty of causing suffering and abandoning the people of Tobago. One of the many atrocities against Tobago UNC members, he said, was there was no polling station.
Thomas, a radio talk show host and Anglican pastor, said Carl Hector sent a notice to chairman of the elections committee, Khemchan Ramdath, confirming there was a membership of 1,500 people in Tobago and no polling station. Thomas said when he spoke to Ramdath on Tuesday he told him to come to Trinidad and vote in Arouca. Thomas said: “I don’t live in Arouca. I live in Tobago. He went further to say I must buy a plane ticket and bring the receipt, pay a car and bring the receipt and if I have to eat any meal bring the receipt. “My favourite meal is doubles so you could imagine me telling a doubles man I want a receipt.”

For YEARS Panday and his ethnic party trying to tell allyuh the obvious, but allyuh head too hard, cyar listen. Within the last few years we had many elections. When was the last time the UNC put up candidates in Tobago? Nah, instead this "National" party put up excuses in Tobago. But since dotishness reign supreme for at least 1,500 Tobagonians, allyuh too damn blind to see what Panday's ethnic club trying to tell allyuh: They only want allyuh 2 seats. Get some frikkin' sense! See the actions of the party for what they are.

This matter was addressed with the Executive on Tuesday, for elections on Sun. 24th. Sufficient time to rectify an error in judgement.
If the UNC took Aplications and fees and approved them as card carrying members of UNC, then they should and must provide these 1500 members with a polling station(s) in Tobago. This display of neglect and ignorance is what we have been seeing on display with the current Executive of the UNC. This is not democracy, it is bias decision making.
The messsge being sent is that these 1500 UNC Members are not deserving of equity in their own country.
Message to the wise: - Every single innocent member should be treated with the utmost respect, and these 1500 members in Tobago are being shoved to the back of the line. This is a sure recipe for defeat and destruction.
IT IS NOT TOO LATE TO SCRAMBLE AND SET UP A POLLING STATION(S) IN TOBAGO TO ACCOMMODATE THESE 1500 IMPORTANT UNC MEMBERS.
*** If you took their money and not provide them with a polling station in their territory, then you are basically committing nothing short of FRAUD.
Treat every member with nothing less than the utmost respect - inclusiveness should be your guiding principle. How you treat the 'little' members in your Party will reflect how substantive you are as a Party and your chances of survival and success. Serving the big and mighty will not save you; it is the support from the 'little' people who can make or break a Party.
We need to progress and this neglect surely takes us backward.

Gardenia, you are absolutely right. Panday and his troupe never learn. When Panday induced Lasse & Griffith to cross the floor and virtually discarded the two Tobago NAR MPs Pam & Job, he was gloating and brimming with over-confidence and went on to pay the price. Did he ever expect PNM Point & Arima to vote for Lasse & Griffith next time around? The man is a hopeless naive political fool who just insults people's goodwill and charity. The mother of all neemakarams. Any sensible leader would try to widen their base, this one strives to hold on to his narrow tribal base. He hardly sees beyond his nose.

Welcome to the 21st century. How could this be? How could something so simple be overlooked...and don't blame Panday alone. Where were the other stakeholders? It is in their interest also to make sure all bases are covered. They too busy fighting each other like crabs in a barrel. I have an idea how this could be solved. Panday can take his cameras over to Tobago, take pictures of each person as they swear to an affidavit in front of Jack's lawyers who they want to vote for. Bring them back to Trinidad and hope the water taxi don't stall on the way. Then "stuff" the ballot boxes with their votes. Problem solved. Heh, heh, heh.
