?Former United National Congress (UNC) political leader Basdeo Panday remains unwilling to be a part of a UNC led by his successor, Kamla Persad-Bissessar. Panday has denied that considerations were being given to defect from the UNC and form another political party for him and his supporters. "They have stolen the elections...I am confident of that," Panday said during a telephone interview yesterday. "I am not going to be a part of that fraud that has been perpetrated upon the people."
He was responding to questions about joining Persad-Bissessar and UNC national executive members for the launch of their "Meet the Constituents Tour" in Couva North since he was the MP for the area. He said: "I am not aware (about their series of meetings). I am not sure (about being invited to join them). I do not know, but in any case let them do their thing.
"I am not going to be a part of that," he said. When asked about forming another party since he was unwilling to be a part of a Persad-Bissessar-led UNC, Panday said: "No, I will not do that." He said that he moved his focus to attending to his constituents. "I have a constituency to attend to and I shall do that," Panday said. (KM)
