Chair­man of the Unit­ed Na­tion­al Con­gress (UNC) Jack Warn­er says Sports Min­is­ter Gary Hunt should be fired be­cause of "mis­steps" in the erec­tion of a $2 mil­lion flag at the Hase­ly Craw­ford Sta­di­um, Port-of-Spain, last year.

Hunt ad­mit­ted to not han­dling that project right in an ad­dress to the na­tion at the week­end. Warn­er, who is al­so Chief Whip and Mem­ber of Par­lia­ment for Ch­agua­nas West, said Hunt should be re­moved swift­ly be­cause he has "proven to be a dis­mal and mis­er­able fail­ure."

Warn­er said Hunt should re­sign as a Gov­ern­ment Min­is­ter be­cause of his ad­mis­sion to mak­ing an er­ror with the project. "His con­fes­sion that the flag fi­as­co was a mis­take is an in­dict­ment on his lead­er­ship and an ad­mis­sion that the coun­try was put through a fi­nan­cial bur­den for a wrong cause," he added. Warn­er said Hunt's pub­lic apol­o­gy was "a bit too late".
