People's National Movement (PNM) chairman and Energy Minister Conrad Enill says PNM members will not engage in any debate with any Opposition member. Enill was speaking yesterday with reporters at the launch of the Carbon Reduction Strategy Task Force. "We see no reason for getting involved in the event. We go where it matters and addressing issues that the people are concerned with," Enill said.

He was responding to the setting up of the Debates Commission by the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce. He said the PNM had scheduled 40 to 50 meetings with the public and he considered those to be debates. He added: "We think we can meet everybody by going on the ground. That is the way and we don't need the media campaigning. We feel we touch all the people. "It (debate) is something we do not do," Enill said.

At the launch, several members received letters of appointment to be part of the Carbon Reduction Strategy Task Force. Enill said the launch was another milestone initiative to reduce global carbon emissions. "We have a marked increase in greenhouse gases. It cannot be ignored," Enill said. He said scientists recommend 300 parts per millions which is not agreed to by all and Trinidad was 72 by global comparisons.
