Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar told supporters last night that she does not believe the hijacking of her niece and official driver earlier in the day was a random robbery. She was speaking at the party's political meeting in Penal. Persad-Bissessar said what was disturbing was that her Prado was found minus confidential documents. "What is disturbing is the interpretation one places on the removal of those documents," she said.
"There were a lot of other items which were not removed. If this was a random robbery, why take my documents?" She told supporters that the party's political strategy was not among the documents stolen. Persad-Bissessar also reminded supporters that Prime Minister Patrick Manning had dismissed the threat on her life. "The prospect of this being a planned event is too dangerous to consider at this time, when taken on the context that our Prime Minister casually dismissed the threat on my life, saying it was a hoax and this was even before the police conducted investigations," she said.
Meanwhile, at a PNM political meeting in Mayaro last night, Manning said if the incident was real, then the PNM condemned it in the strongest way. "The PNM is not about that... If the threat is real, then the PNM wishes to condemn it the strongest way," he said. Manning said he was waiting to hear what the police had to say about the incident.
