Prime ministerial-hopeful Kamla Persad-Bissessar has declared the next five days as a time for yellow. Persad-Bissessar called on her People's Partnership followers to sport something yellow for each day until Sunday, the day before the May 24 general election. She said: "This is the week of yellow...Wear something yellow...The light will rise as our nation moves toward liberation day. Wear something yellow everyday this week...Tie something yellow on your gate on your post, whatever it is." Persad-Bissessar was addressing hundreds in Sangre Grande at yesterday afternoon's start of the People's Partnership motorcade along the East-West Corridor.
She apologised for being unable to attend the UNC public political meeting in the area over the weekend. "(UNC chairman) Jack (Warner) would have told you on Saturday that we have some domestic security matters to deal with and I know you have forgiven me (for being absent) because I see you here in your numbers," Persad-Bissessar said.
"I was told by my security people that it was important for us to put those security arrangements in place and that was what we spent Saturday evening doing." She said that the countdown was on to vote out Prime Minister Patrick Manning from office and that there were less than "six more days to go."
"Do not be afraid. Do not fear the threats, the intimidation, all the smear campaigns against the People's Partnership would not stop the change that is coming for the 24th," Persad-Bissessar said. "You know in the Lotto, they say if you do not have a ticket, you do not have a chance. If you do not cast that vote, you do not have that chance for change. You are now a part of history in the making. We ask you to make sure." Persad-Bissessar cautioned supporters against becoming complacent and refraining from voting in the election. "We have to make sure that every single vote is cast. Do not get carried away but all the crowds. It is not over until 6 pm on Monday 24," she said. "Stay focused. Do not get in any fight. Do not get in any quarrel."
