Works and Transport Minister Colm Imbert has called on supporters of the People's National Movement (PNM) to deal with the media over coverage of the 2010 general election.
Imbert was speaking at a meeting at the Curepe Community Centre in support of incumbent MP for St Joseph Kennedy Swaratsingh on Wednesday night. "You must deal with them, this media that we have, this television station and these newspapers," he added.
"I watched TV 6 (news) tonight (Wednesday). The first story (broadcast) is Jack Warner talking nonsense, second story is Kamla (Persad-Bissessar) talking foolishness, third story is (Herbert) Volney talking ugliness, I eh see PNM yet you know," Imbert said.
He then claimed the media were "bombarding the airwaves with coverage of Opposition meetings, because they are not with us." Imbert said the media did not win election but people do. "So I am telling you over the next four days, don't worry about all the stupidness you see in the newspapers because it bound to be some conspiracy designed to 'confuffle' your brain. "Don't bother with what you see on television. Don't bother with what you hear on the radio... so I am asking you to ignore it," Imbert said.
