Congress of the People MP for Tunapuna Winston Dookeran says the People's Partnership landslide victory at the polls was five years in the making. He was speaking at his campaign office in Tunapuna moments after he beat the PNM's Esther Le Gendre. "No, not five years, eight years, it has been in the making for eight years," Dookeran's supporters shouted. While trying to calm the crowd around him at his Tunapuna constituency office, Dookeran expressed gratitude to all those who supported him, even those from the PNM.

"All those who worked so hard and have dedicated the last five years to achieving this great victory say thank you," he said. "To supporters of the PNM who have overwhelmingly placed their trust in me, I say thank you," Dookeran added. He said the People's Partnership was mandated by the people to bring good governance to the country. "This evening you have accepted our case for Government," he said.
