For­mer leader of the Unit­ed Na­tion­al Con­gress Bas­deo Pan­day this morn­ing con­grat­u­lat­ed the Peo­ple's Part­ner­ship on it's vic­to­ry in the 2010 gen­er­al elec­tion. In a tele­phone in­ter­view around 12.45 am, Pan­day said he was hap­py the par­ty won "by such a large ma­jor­i­ty."

He said: "Now we can have all the changes we have been ask­ing, now we can hope for re­al change, We hope for changes, in­clud­ing con­sti­tu­tion­al re­form." Pan­day, who cel­e­brates his 77th birth­day to­day, con­grat­u­lat­ed his suc­ces­sor Prime Min­is­ter-elect Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar on tele­vi­sion last night. Asked if he per­son­al­ly called Per­sad-Bisses­sar to con­grat­u­late her Pan­day said: "No I did not, but I con­grat­u­lat­ed her on tele­vi­sion."
