Former head of the Public Service Reginald Dumas says it must be proven that there exists a conflict of interest with Works and Transport Minister Jack Warner continuing to perform the duties as Fifa vice-president.
Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley wrote to the Integrity Commission on Monday, seeking clarification on whether it was proper for Warner to hold the two positions. Rowley said he was opposed to a full-time minister of government in T&T hold another paid job. But Dumas said that one should not rush to judgment on the Warner issue until and unless it could be proven that there was a conflict of interest for Warner to hold the two jobs.
Dumas said the responsibilities of Warner's job as Fifa vice-president must be known before it can be determined if it would negatively impact on his performance as a Government Minister. Dumas said Warner's international contact as a Fifa executive could bring benefit to the people T&T.
