Mayaro MP Winston Peters says the People's Partnership scored a second victory in the local government election by taking the Mayaro/Rio Claro Corporation. An ecstatic Peters said: "We won all six seats. We have just gone clear. We have wiped out the PNM here totally. The people are happy with the way we are performing. It is a second victory.

"The people are seeing the manner in which the People's Partnership is performing. The people do not intend to reverse their decision of May 24. The voters are more intelligent and more critical." The areas the People's Partnership, led by Kamla Persad-Bissessar, won were Biche/Charuma (Glen Ram), Cocal/Mafeking (Keshire Kissoon) and Mayaro/Guayaguayare (Raymond Cozier).

They were joined by Rio Claro North (Hazarie Ramdeen), Rio Claro South (Cyrilla Zola Cooper) and Eccles Ville (Shaffik Mohammed). Peters said they had to get busy tending to rural neglect and issues, like drainage and agriculture. He added: "A lot of the things that need to be done are dependent upon the central and local government. I am happy to have a team of hardworking councillors. We are going to be working in tandem."
