Rebuilding will take some time says Browne
It might need months or years to rebuild a PNM so that large numbers of the population will have the confidence in it to govern T&T, PNM Diego Martin Central MP Amery Browne said yesterday. Browne said he would not give traction to the perception that his absence caused PNM to lose Diego corporations since everyone knew where he was and why he was there—in Europe for a medical convention.
After every election, he said people look around for scapegoats. But he felt the PP’s win was the result of shrewd political thinking and was an “echo of PP’s May 24 general election victory.” He said it was too early to come to any critical judgment in just a couple weeks regarding PNM leader Keith Rowley’s ability to lead the party. Browne said the process “is going to require patience and ongoing efforts at team building and re-establishment of common principles of unity and working together.”
He felt PNM’s youths would carry with them a large part of the answer for the party’s challenge and large numbers remain committed. He said he was confident “it will be a different story next time and PNM would form the next government.” (GA)
Which is it Browne months or
Which is it Browne months or years to rebuild? And to think that the PNM formed the government a few months ago. How pathetic!
There can be no leaders
There can be no leaders without followers, it is time to stop playing the blame game and casting aspersions on persons character. Citizens in the future will want their needs address as a government cannot address all issues adequately and it will be to the PNM's benefit that it can be seen by citizens of T&T as a creditable alternative government to the present Peoples Partnership. I think the PNM should use this down time to reevaluate their past performances, roles and responsibilities and not moon over election results, identify where they veered off the proverbial path to providing the citizenry with good governance and provide a new direction for acheiving good gorvernance for the people by the people,of the people.I would like to remind the new PNM of possible TROJAN HORSES in the present party. It is my view that the PNM party was being destroyed from within and the election results was the final nail in the coffin
trinitodebone..PNM WILL BE
trinitodebone..PNM WILL BE BACK. Amery Browne has articulated the situation very assutely. Good to have a purge of the party first. Lets rid ourselves of all the non-performers, the people that aren't willing to adapt. Bring in the youth, rebrand the party attack the PP at their core the CHANGE MANTRA. Become like the Dems did in the US become the party of reform. Debate them on the issues not stupidty, challenge them on social reform & economic issues. With bright new fresh ideas, like Vision 20/20 but explain it to the electorate. If the PNM does that they will be back as a force in the political landscape in Trinidad .....
The PNM needs to genially
The PNM needs to genially open it doors to all,it must stop being this afro centric base party in 2010 where tribal politics is on its way out. Just as UNC reinvented it self whether genuine or not under PP the PNM must do the same. The section of the population that was never identified with the PNM i.e the Black middle class, the French Creole, the Chinese ,the none UNC East Indian, ect is now a real and dominant force .This group which started with the ONR ,then went on to the NAR and now finds itself in the COP is the back bone to PP victory so far.
If the PNM is every going regain any political power it must target this group .The unfortunate thing is that i do not think Dr Rowley is the person to attract this section of the population ;i thought he might but he not shown it so far. The PNM needs leader who can seem to be able work along with the people, humble and not arrogant, yet firm and solid.Where would the PNM find this person i do not know, but that person must be able to stand up to all the in fighting that would come his or her way.
I wish the PNM all the best because the country needs a strong opposition . I note however the manner that Dr Rowley started is not the way ,he comes across just as Mr Manning just in a more arrogant tone and that is turn off .
In 1971 the member of
In 1971 the member of Parliament for Diego Martin West was the late Dr Lancelot Brown. A dentist by profession he was more absent from Parliament than present. I do not think you are related. Your last name ends with an "e". However, he was a millstone. A fifth wheel to the coach, so to speak.
I hope you Dr Brown would help in bringing a new face and change to the PNM. It's you and not Dr.Rowley who would lead the young fresh PNM to the corridors of power in five or ten years time. For the sake of the party get rid of the millstones of Rowley,Imbert,Valley,Penny and that old guard and begin anew. Change the party's structure and inject young, fresh members who bring 21st century ideas. Traverse the country and solicit nationals from all segments of the population. Let the new PNM embrace all and be representative of the country at large. Stop degrading your opponents with mauvais langue. Ask all and sundry how to construct a new PNM charter. Introduce one man, one vote.
You are a young intelligent person. I have listened to you and there is promise. Do not espouse the old PNM's mantra of spite and arrogance. Do like Obama and let the sincerity and honesty of your political convictions shine and propel you into peoples hearts. That's the only hope for you and the PNM to ever see the corridors of power again....trust me.
I am not getting that 'vibe'
I am not getting that 'vibe' that Dr. Rowley possesses the required leadership charisma/skills to pull the PNM out of its current dilemma. Guess only time will tell!
Dr Browne, the word of the
Dr Browne, the word of the day is "regroup"...

It has become better
It has become better understood that all that the PNM hierarchy is interested in is "what people are willing to do to get the PNM back in power." The PNM system cares nothing about T&T's population.
What can the residents of 'strong hold' PNM areas earnestly say the PNM have done to uplift their lives from 1956 to present? These "expert commentators" with their unchanging advice are not to be taken seriously. All that concerns the PNM hierarchy is quenching their lust for power. Those who say no more to this lust are treated with disdain - disciplined like 'occultic followers' who go against the chief priest or his second(s) in command.
Followers see the injustice, they live the injustice, sadly they refuse to walk away from PNM injustice, preferring to die first - and so without fail, this end befalls many PNM followers. Why has God shut their eyes and minds to reality - their 'Israelic' captivity?
Rather than energizing the PNM it ought to be put to rest permanently for the sake of progressing the nation beyond the OLD PNM saga of stagnation and public dependency on State handouts. To have the PNM as a political watchdog is to have no watchdog at all. How can a body of mis-managers aid in the serious task of monitoring and directing Trinidad and Tobago on a solid development path? That is like charging prisoners with the responsibility of law enforcement.
"Who are the men, who,
"Who are the men, who, without our realizing it, give us our ideas, tell us whom to admire and whom to despise...The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society...Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. . . . In almost every act of our daily lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons . . . who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. It is they who pull the wires which control the public mind... In theory, every citizen may vote for whom he pleases... Invisible government, in the shape of rudimentary political parties, arose almost overnight. Ever since then we have agreed, for the sake of simplicity and practicality, that party machines should narrow down the field of choice to two candidates, or at most three or four."
"In theory, every citizen makes up his mind on public questions and matters of private conduct. In practice, if all men had to study for themselves the abstruse economic, political, and ethical data involved in every question, they would find it impossible to come to a conclusion without anything. We have voluntarily agreed to let an invisible government sift the data and high-spot the outstanding issue so that our field of choice shall be narrowed to practical proportions. From our leaders and the media they use to reach the public, we accept the evidence and the demarcation of issues bearing upon public question; from some ethical teacher, be it a minister, a favorite essayist, or merely prevailing opinion, we accept a standardized code of social conduct to which we conform most of the time." Edward Bernays
I agree with Dr. Browne's
I agree with Dr. Browne's take on PNM's rebuilding challenges. It was really unfortunate that the PNM chose to launch attacks on the working class, that its MPs continued to ignore the importance of local government representatives even while the Government demasculated local government, created widespread anger with its treatment of property owners, and turned a blind eye to the Hindu Credit Union's problems while showing preferential treatment to Colonial Life.
I viewed in horror, attitudes of some of its Leaders, the attacks on Rowley and Valley by no less a person than Manning himself and the newbite what her name is, and Trinidad and Tobago knew that it was curtains for the PNM.
Would rebranding the PNM work? Only if we as a people begin to have confidence that its policies would reflect the needs of our people.Having said that I hope the PNM can forgive those who caused its demise and survives this time of trouble to return stronger for it.
Those who have ears let them
Those who have ears let them hear. No more maximum leader. No more building edifices of grandeur. No more sitting in your air conditioned offices and forgetting that the population is crying out for better roads, sanitation, drainage, water, electricity etc etc etc. Either you stay grounded or else.......
Dr Wayne Dyer said "When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change" Perhaps the PNM need to start by changing the way they look at governance and start the introspection process by each of its members looking inwardly.
As long as Rowley is
As long as Rowley is political leader of the PNM, the once great party would continue its decline, unless the PP gets carried away and becomes careless and disconnected from the people, like the PNM did. Rowley is a clone of Manning, minus the refinement. His arrogant coarseness which Manning said he had to put up with for years will alienate most of the civilised people of T&T. His boorishness is an instant turn off.
If Manning had listened to
If Manning had listened to constructive dissent(especially from Rowley)and acted professionally and in good faith, the PNM would not be where it is today......Manning would NOT have felt it necessary to commit political suicide/homicide by calling an election now.I say give Rowley the chance (as has been democratically decided within the PNM)to perform. If you are not professional enough to accept that (as a PNM member)just do like the non-committals and leave.
ROWLEY MAYBE THE MAN, BUT HE
ROWLEY MAYBE THE MAN, BUT HE MUST STOP THAT OLD NIGGER ATTITUDE,AND START PAYING ATTENTION TO PNM PROBLEMS. HE MUST GIVE KAMLA A CHANCE TO SEE WHAT SHE WILL DO.. I THINK SHE IS LOVED BY THE PEOPLE
Sad, somebody read one word
Sad, somebody read one word "nigger" and decided you should be muzzled. They entirely missed the true sentiment of the message, which has nothing to do with attacking or demeaning race.
Keith Rowley is the best man
Keith Rowley is the best man to lead the PNM at this time, his deputies should be Faris Al Rawi and Amery Browne, a good team to shepherd the flock.
It will take a new and
It will take a new and refreshing face to lead the PNM out of the gutter coupled with serious missteps or the disintegration of the alliance. Let's not forget the NAR thought it had buried the PNM only to dissolve into a fractious bunch whose leadership kept smelling the stench of each other.
Rowley, Imbert or any of those yes men under Manning will never earn the trust of the electorate. They were there while Manning single handedly gave away the petro dollars. What is it about the PNM and petro-dollars. And to all you afro-trinis who kept the PNM in power by continuing to say the oppositon tief more, I ask you, Wassup.
Yes Mr. Browne it will take
Yes Mr. Browne it will take years to rebuild the PNM party like 50 years or more. Good riddance.
