Acting Prime Minister Winston Dookeran has welcomed PNM members into the People's Partnership. He did so during a fund-raising dinner held at Paria Suites in La Romaine on Saturday night. Delivering the feature address at the function, Dookeran boasted that the Partnership had broken the back of old politics and had ushered in a new form of politics which welcomed inclusion of all parties. "The entire country is breathing a new sigh of relief and expectation," he said. "Not only are we doing a remarkable job, but we are doing what people thought was not possible."
He said the Partnership had made inroads into diehard PNM areas. "There are hard seats and easy seats...What you have done is to make hard seats easy in T&T now," Dookeran said, to loud applause. He noted that the Partnership had a lot of work to be done, but with a positive attitude and hard work, the party must inspire people to build a better T&T. He welcomed members of the PNM to the fund-raising dinner, saying that the Partnership's victory was not just a victory for the party, but for the PNM and all the people of T&T.
Meanwhile, Energy Minister Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan commended all the successful local government councilllors. She said they must work with the central government to achieve strategic goals. Also attending the dinner were Mayor of Arima Ghassan Yussuf, San Fernando Mayor Marlene Coudray and activist Vallence Rambharat.
