May­or of Port-of-Spain Joel Mar­tinez is up­set with City Po­lice for not keep­ing the so­cial­ly dis­placed off the streets of the city.

He said they came to an agree­ment called the “Move Along Pol­i­cy”, where the po­lice are re­quired to re­lo­cate the street dwellers to a place where the clean­ing of the city can­not be in­ter­rupt­ed, and cit­i­zens will not be at risk.

“I have gone down­town, many times, dif­fer­ent hours, tak­en pic­tures and pre­sent­ed it to the Chief Ex­ec­u­tive Of­fi­cer (of the City Cor­po­ra­tion) to present it to the po­lice, and still two days lat­er, I pass back and they’re still there. In oth­er words, I'm ask­ing the city po­lice to do their jobs, and I should not be do­ing this,” Mar­tinez said.

He was speak­ing to Guardian Me­dia af­ter the Port-of-Spain Cor­po­ra­tion's Statu­to­ry Meet­ing at City Hall this morn­ing.
