Mayor of Port-of-Spain Joel Martinez is upset with City Police for not keeping the socially displaced off the streets of the city.
He said they came to an agreement called the “Move Along Policy”, where the police are required to relocate the street dwellers to a place where the cleaning of the city cannot be interrupted, and citizens will not be at risk.
“I have gone downtown, many times, different hours, taken pictures and presented it to the Chief Executive Officer (of the City Corporation) to present it to the police, and still two days later, I pass back and they’re still there. In other words, I'm asking the city police to do their jobs, and I should not be doing this,” Martinez said.
He was speaking to Guardian Media after the Port-of-Spain Corporation's Statutory Meeting at City Hall this morning.
