KERWIN PIERRE

General Secretary of the Trinidad and Tobago Postal Workers’ Union (TTPWU), has rejected the TTPost’s wage offer for the 2014–2016 and 2017–2019 bargaining periods, calling it “far less than what we were expecting.”

David Forbes said in a release, the offer—2%, 0%, and 0% for the first period, and 0%, 0%, and 2% for the second—fails to address critical issues, including the implementation of an 18.6% Job Evaluation and Cost of Living Allowances.

Forbes said the union remains “committed to resolving all matters relative to the negotiations” and will submit a counter-proposal by  February 17 2025.

He also criticised the choice of Drew Manor in Santa Cruz as the venue for negotiations, citing cost concerns. “From our experience, TTPost has been saying they are unable to treat with workers’ issues timely,” Forbes writes, adding that holding meetings at the National Mail Centre in Piarco would be more prudent. The union, he said, will “continue to treat matters as they come.”
