The mother of President Paula-Mae Weekes has contracted COVID-19.
According to a statement from the Office of the President, Her Excellency has since been placed into quarantine as a precaution.
President Weekes’ mother, Phyllis, is 92 and lives with her daughter.
The Office of the President said, “The good news is Her Excellency’s mother, who was vaccinated and boosted, experienced only mild symptoms and is now symptom-free but still being monitored carefully.”
It said President Weekes, also vaccinated and boosted, continues to test negative and is working from home during the quarantine period.
However, her office said there will be no video Christmas message this year from Her Excellency as a result.
This is not the first time the President has been in quarantine.
In September of 2020, President Weekes went into self-quarantine after her aide-de-camp tested positive for COVID-19.
