Rwanda’s president Paul Kagame will be in Trinidad to attend the Conference of the Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
The Office of the Prime Minister confirmed to Guardian Media that President Kagame is expected to arrive in the country tomorrow (July 4).
President Kagame is one of several high-profile leaders attending the 50th anniversary meeting including Prime Minister of South Korea Han Duck-soo, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of China Hua Chunying.
The African leader has become a major figurehead, addressing regional and international audiences on a range of issues including African development, leadership, and the potential of ICT as a dynamic industry as well as an enabler for Africa’s socioeconomic transformation.
Notably, Rwanda’s admittance to the Commonwealth took place during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting held in Port of Spain in 2009, which was chaired by Trinidad and Tobago.
President Kagame is expected to attend Golden Rhythms: CARICOM at 50 – the 50th Anniversary Cultural Concert at NAPA on July 4, as well as the dinner being by Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley on July 5.
