The Princes Town RC Pri­ma­ry School re­mained closed Mon­day fol­low­ing a fire that dam­aged the build­ing last Thurs­day. The Min­istry of Works and Trans­port was ex­pect­ed to in­spect the in­tegri­ty of the build­ing and de­ter­mine the scope of works to be car­ried out. Min­is­ter in the Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion Dr Lovell Fran­cis said that the struc­tur­al sur­vey re­port will dic­tate what ac­tions the min­istry em­barks up­on. He was hope­ful that they will not have to re­lo­cate the stu­dents. In the in­ter­im, he said, the Stan­dards Four and Five stu­dents are ex­pect­ed to be housed at the near­by church. Last Thurs­day fire broke out around 12.20 pm in the com­put­er room and the school was evac­u­at­ed.

Fire Fight­ers of the Princes Town Fire Sta­tion re­spond­ed quick­ly and ex­tin­guished the blaze be­fore it could spread to the en­tire school. How­ev­er, the com­put­er room which was lo­cat­ed in the base­ment and class­rooms on the ground floor were dam­aged.

The school has a stu­dent pop­u­la­tion of 300 pupils, 16-mem­ber teach­ing staff and sev­en aux­il­iary staff.

The cause of the fire is still be­ing in­ves­ti­gat­ed.
