The Princes Town RC Primary School remained closed Monday following a fire that damaged the building last Thursday. The Ministry of Works and Transport was expected to inspect the integrity of the building and determine the scope of works to be carried out. Minister in the Ministry of Education Dr Lovell Francis said that the structural survey report will dictate what actions the ministry embarks upon. He was hopeful that they will not have to relocate the students. In the interim, he said, the Standards Four and Five students are expected to be housed at the nearby church. Last Thursday fire broke out around 12.20 pm in the computer room and the school was evacuated.
Fire Fighters of the Princes Town Fire Station responded quickly and extinguished the blaze before it could spread to the entire school. However, the computer room which was located in the basement and classrooms on the ground floor were damaged.
The school has a student population of 300 pupils, 16-member teaching staff and seven auxiliary staff.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
