A prisons officer was arrested after he was found to be in possession of marijuana while on duty on Thursday.
According to a police report, the officer, who has over eight years of service and is assigned to the Port-of-Spain Prison, was subjected to an intel-based search in the scanner room of the prison by members of the Prisons Intelligence Team.
During the search, officers found several packets of marijuana on his person.
The officer was subsequently cautioned and handed over to police officers from the Criminal Investigation Department.
In a media release issued by the T&T Prisons Service, acting Commissioner of Prisons Deopersad Ramoutar praised his officers and members of the public for the leads provided in the matter.
However, he also noted his concern about how easily bail may be afforded to the officer. (RDR)
