Roman Catholic Archbishop Father Jason Gordon is in isolation after coming into contact with a COVID-positive individual.
The Archdiocese of Port-of-Spain took to its Twitter page yesterday to make the announcement.
The tweet read, “Archbishop Gordon was at an event last weekend, where he was in contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19 on December 7. Out of an abundance of caution and in keeping with health protocols, he will be in isolation until the incubation period is over and can be tested.”
There are no details as to the event Gordon attended and based on the information released, he does not appear to be in ill-health.
Only on Tuesday, an article in Catholic News had the Archbishop saying T&T needs ‘inner cleansing’ to overcome COVID-19.
In the article, Gordon said people must return to devotion to God and stop their indiscipline and selfishness to restore Trinidad and Tobago because irresponsibility is causing destruction.
“Children that have been well-disciplined by their parents understand if you do what is wrong, there are consequences for your actions. We are like a nation of spoilt children…,” he is quoted as saying last Sunday, December 5 during Mass at Living Water Community Chapel, Port-of-Spain.
Gordon said people have grown accustomed to indiscipline over the past 50 years, but the country could not continue in this way for the next 50.
“We really believe we can do what we want and there are no consequences coming our way,” he commented.
The article also said Gordon has not mandated being vaccinated as a requirement to attend Holy Mass and called on Trinis to not “do what they want” but instead, take responsibility.
