Relative to be charged with murder after woman, 81, dies after beating

Days af­ter she was beat­en by a rel­a­tive, an el­der­ly woman has suc­cumbed to her in­juries at hos­pi­tal.

Po­lice said 81-year-old Ma­hadeo Manichan died at the Ch­agua­nas Health Fa­cil­i­ty at 4 pm on Mon­day.

Of­fi­cers said one of Manichan’s rel­a­tives called an am­bu­lance af­ter the woman com­plained of feel­ing un­well at her Co­conut Dri­ve, Pep­per Sauce Vil­lage, Ch­agua­nas home on Sat­ur­day af­ter­noon.

As the 57-year-old rel­a­tive was open­ing the gate for the Emer­gency Health Ser­vice (EHS) work­ers, she was at­tacked by the sus­pect, who struck her at the side of her head with a piece of steel.

The woman told po­lice the man ran in­to the house and struck Manichan on her head with the steel rod.

Ch­agua­nas po­lice were called in and ar­rest­ed the man, who they said had a his­to­ry of men­tal is­sues.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors said the man was orig­i­nal­ly charged with as­sault by beat­ing and re­mand­ed to the St Ann’s Psy­chi­atric Hos­pi­tal. The charge will be up­grad­ed to mur­der in light of Manichan’s death.
