High Court judge Justice Sharon Gibson has handed down an order making two children who are returning from Syria, wards of the court.
The children will be under the control of the Children's Authority of Trinidad and Tobago.
The Authority has been granted a Child Assessment Order to assess the state of the children's health, development and the manner in which they have been treated.
The assessment will entail medical, social, psychological, psychosocial, psychoeducational and psychiatric examination of the children and their parents or guardians.
The order allows the Children's Authority to monitor the children for an initial period of six months to determine the additional needs that the children would require subsequent to their placement with their mother.
The court has also ordered that media houses are not to publish or broadcast the identities of the children.
The two children who were kidnapped by their father and taken to Syria, were rescued through efforts led by Clive Stafford-Smith, a UK lawyer of Perkins-Ferreira and founder of Reprieve, who used private resources to reunite the children with their mother in London, before being flown home to Trinidad.
