Rough waves swept an elderly couple's home into the sea and damaged another at the beach-front community of West Bayshore, Marabella over the weekend.

While the elderly couple was forced to seek refuge by their son in Claxton Bay, their daughter who lives next door with her four children is fearful that her home might face a similar fate.

Seema Hosein, a domestic worker, said it was the first time in the 17 years that she ever experienced such turbulent waves. She recalled that the around 1 pm on Saturday, large waves began smashing against her parents' house as well hers.

"The waves start to hit the house and all the plywood start to shake and the posts too. The wood start to fall down and by the time the fourth wave hit, the whole back of the house start to go into the sea," said Hosein.

She said her sister and brother helped their parents Mangree, 70 and Aziz Hosein, 72, to salvage some items as their house broke apart.

She recalled, "I stand up by the window bawling. I was feeling the vibration in my house too. I start to bawl because I feel like my house want to come down too. Me and my children had to leave the house. We were so frightened. Normally, the sea doesn't be like that. Is the first time I see those waves come up so high."

Hosein said half of her parents' home was swept away while two posts at the rear of her house were damaged. Hosein is appealing for help to rebuild her parents' home and also for help to reinforce her damaged posts.

Hosein said she and her children, ages 18, 16, 14, 11, are now living in fear that their home will also tumble into the sea. "This water is different. I never experience something like this. The sea still rough but is low tide, we are frightened what will happen with the high tide," she said.

The Met Service had forecasted rough seas over the weekend.
